Wrinkle Fillers

Do you want fewer wrinkles?

As we mature volume is lost from the tissues of the face leading to hollows, flatness, wrinkles and furrows. Fillers can be used either to target individual lines or to restore youthful volume to the face.

By replenishing your skin’s own collagen with injectable fillers, wrinkles and most scars are improved. Injectable fillers can also improve the appearance of deeper frown lines and nasal labial furrows. Fillers are effective, time-tested, non-surgical wrinkle treatments that can provide immediate results (depending on choice of filler).

Injectable fillers are performed on an outpatient basis. Filler injections are relatively painless and are performed with a local or topical anesthetic.

Dr. Fredrikson artfully uses fillers to individualize treatments. She was trained during residency on the use of fillers and has been injecting filler since 1995.

Our filler menu includes:

Hyaluronic acid based fillers. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance naturally found in the skin and provides it with volume and fullness. As we mature hyaluronic acid is lost. The HA fillers can be used to restore youthful volume to the lips, correct any facial fold or crease, correct down turned corners of the mouth and hollows under the eyes. Injections give immediate results with a minimum of discomfort and minimal or no downtime. Bruising and some swelling can occur and typically lasts 3-10 days following injection. Typically the HA fillers last from 6-12 months depending on the choice of specific filler and the application. Duration also varies from one patient to another. We recommend the following HA fillers based on FDA approved status, safety, quality and duration of results.

Juvederm Ultra®
Juvederm Ultra Plus®
Restylane®
Perlane®

Collagen based fillers. Collagen fillers are excellent for smoothing fine etched lines and wrinkles, and adding definition to lip border from the inside out. Results are immediate and collagen is often used to fill in facial folds and creases to make the lips fuller and more attractive. Collagen fillers have a long safety record and have been used in the U.S. for decades. Our currently recommended collagen based products are FDA approved, safe and effective and require no skin testing. Duration of collagen injections are typically 2-4 months; duration varies from one individual to another.

Cosmoplast®
Cosmoderm ®

Radiesse® is a biocompatible filler made of fine calcium microspheres in a cellulose based gel. It is FDA approved for the correction of medium and deep facial lines. The gel base acts as an immediate filler and the fine calcium microspheres stimulates the body to generate new collagen resulting in results that typically last about 12 months. This filler is injected using both topical anesthetic and an injection of local anesthetic. No allergy test is needed.

Sculptra® is a biocompatible and biodegradable material also known as poly-l-lactic acid. This is a tissue compatible polymer that has been used in medicine for 25 years and is similar to absorbable suture material. More than 150,000 patients have been treated worldwide since 1999 with a 90% satisfaction rating by patients and their physicians even after 18 months. Sculptra is FDA approved for restoration of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus. Sculptra is used “off-label” as an attractive filler option for any patient seeking longer lasting volume enhancement whether or not the patient has HIV. No allergy testing is needed. The most common side effects include bleeding, bruising, swelling, and redness. Side effects generally resolve fully in 3-17 days. The full benefits of Sculptra are not seen immediately and it typically takes 3 separate treatment sessions to see improvement.
